Episode 3 Bullying by friends

친구들도 (chin-gu-deul-do) 처음에는 (cheo-eu-me-neun) 친절했지만 (chin-jeol-het-ji-man), 나중에는 (na-jung-e-neun) 키 (ki) 작고 (jak-go), 못생긴 (mot-seng-gin) 준호를 (jun-ho-reul) 괴롭히기 (goe-ro-pi-gi) 시작했다 (si-ja-ket-da).

친구 (friend) 들 (s) 도 (also) 처음에 (at first) 는 (my topic is at first) 친절 (to be kind) (past) 지만 (but), 나중에 (later) 는 (my topic is later) 키 (height) 작 (to be small) 고 (and), 못생 (to be ugly) (who is ugly? Junho) 준호 (Junho) 를 (friends’ target is Junho) 괴롭히 (to bully) 기 시작 (to begin) (past) 다 (I think to myself while writing).

Friends were also kind at first but later began to bully short, ugly Jun-ho.

* Past form of 하 is 했
* 못생기 + ㄴ = 못생긴.

친구 (chin-gu) 1: “야 (ya), 키 (ki) 작고 (jak-go), 못생긴 (mot-seng-gin) 애 (e). 이리로 (i-ri-ro) 와 (wa) 봐 (bwa).”

* 못생기 + ㄴ = 못생긴
* 오 + ㅏ = 와
* 보 + ㅏ = 봐

친구 (chin-gu) 2: “착한 (cha-kan) 척하지 (cheo-ka-ji) 마 (ma). 재수 (je-su) 없어 (eop-seo).”

친구 (friend) 2: “착 (to be nice) (I am describing the following noun (척) with an adjective (착하다)) 척하 (to pretend) 지 마 (don’t, in a casual way). 재수 (luck) 없 (not to exist) 어 (I am now telling you casually).”

Literally, Friend 2: “Don’t pretend to be nice. Luck doesn’t exist.”

* 착하 + ㄴ = 착한

준호 (jun-ho): “미안해 (mi-an-he), 우리 (u-ri) 좋은 (jo-eun) 친구가 (chin-gu-ga) 되었으면 (doe-eo-sseu-myeon) 좋겠어 (jo-ke-sseo).”

Friends kept hitting Jun-ho until he collapsed.

Literally, (Friends) hit continually until when Jun-ho collapse.

* 쓰러지 + ㄹ = 쓰러질
* 때리 + 었 = 때렸

그날 (geu-nal) 밤 (bam) 준호는 (jun-ho-neun) 기숙사에서 (gi-suk-sa-e-seo) 남몰래 (nam-mol-le) 울었다 (u-reot-da).

그날 (that day) 밤 (night) 준호(Junho) 는 (my topic is Junho) 기숙사 (dormitory) 에서 (in) 남몰래 (secretly) 울 (to cry) 었 (past) 다 (I think to myself while writing).

That night, Junho cried secretly in the dormitory.

준호 (jun-ho): “엄마 (eom-ma), 아빠 (a-ppa), 할머니 (hal-meo-ni)… 왜 (we) 나만 (na-man) 홀로 (hol-lo) 두고 (du-go), 저 (jeo) 세상으로 (se-sang-eu-ro) 떠났어요 (tteo-na-sseo-yo)?”
